okay I don’t say this often because it’s both arrogant sounding and hardly ever true but

I not only could have taught that class, but I could have taught it much better than the actual professor did

he committed every single goddamn cardinal teaching sin: droning voice, not looking up from his notes- from which he read, verbatim, for almost the entire class- more than twice an hour, no discussion or debate, no visual aides at all, failing to relate the content to anything that the average student might have as a frame of reference (nor did he include interesting anecdotes), and being vague and unspecific about assignment requirements.

I’m going to fucking stage a coup.

the previous post brought to you by the fact that I went to a strategic planning meeting about the future of my MA program today and one of my fellow students- an art museum education person- was saying that we should do LESS hands-on collections/exhibits work in our program and have classes focus more on the ethics and philosophy of museums and, furthermore, maybe museums shouldn’t even have collections at all.

so if you’re wondering how far up their own asses art museum people are……….. it’s that far.

I’m sorry but

how do u have a museum without a collection

I DON’T KNOW. it would be “””””experiential””””….. I guess. I mean, plenty of science centers really only have teaching collections but that’s still something.
