Extirpation of the Plagues of Egypt; – Destruction of Revolutionary Crocodiles; – or – The British Hero cleansing ye Mouth of ye Nile, by James Gillray (1798)

Gillray’s caricature of Nelson’s victory over the French fleet at the Battle of the Nile (1-2 August, 1798). The admiral is shown beating tricoloured crocodiles with a club marked “British oak”, while taking nine in tow. One crocodile, representing the French flagship L’Orient, explodes in the background.

A welcome image for the new patreon, done as a quick style test for a brand new comic series! I’m going to be creating humorous and educational comics about naturalist life, outdoor sports, my (mis)adventures therewith.

The first post is up on patreon right now, and will go public here in a month, so stay tuned! In the meantime I’ll be cleaning up and reposting some of my older ecology blogging.
