add something more to this wonderful year
I tested some opaque whites today, and I figured this info might be interesting for others. With the exception of the pens, every color was laid with a broad paintbrush.
- Daler-Rowney Pro White (link) – Not waterproof. Opaque, and thick in consistency. Sits high on top of paper, and is slow to dry. Slightly glossy finish.
- Dr. Ph. Martin’s Bombay White (link) – Waterproof. Reasonably opaque, thin in consistency, and lays flat on paper. Separates in bottle and must be shaken. Matte finish.
- Daler-Rowney FW Ink (link) – Waterproof. Opaque, thinner than the Pro White, but sits even higher on paper. Dries slowest and forms high profile dimensional brush strokes with bubbles. Separates in bottle. Shiny finish.
- Windsor-Newton Zinc White Gouache (link) – Not waterproof. Mildly opaque. Lays flat and absorbs nicely into paper. Matte finish.
- Holbein Acryla Gouache China White (link) Waterproof. Mildly opaque similar to WN Gouache, but absorbs less and is streakier. Matte finish.
- Richard Casein Shiva Titanium White (link) Waterproof. Reasonably opaque, dryer than gouaches but spreads well with water. Matte finish.
- Uni-ball Signo Broad White 1mm Pen (link) Not waterproof. Solid, opaque white line ballpoint pen. Slight gloss finish.
- Uniball Signo Angellic White 0.7mm Pen (link) Not waterproof. Thinner white line ballpoint, less opaque than the Signo Broad and tends to skip. Slight gloss finish.
Winners – Casein turned out pretty awesome for a true opaque white, and you can never go wrong with classic WN Gouache and Signo Broad White Pens.
Losers – Daler-Rowney FW Ink hands down. Doesn’t spread smoothly, stays bubbly, doesn’t lay flat, never dries. I really don’t like this stuff.
any art folks have recs for a tool suited to fine details with a good opaque white ink (or equivalent, preferably in pen form), suitable for working over (dry) watercolor paintings?
I’ve tried gel pens, white colored pencils of several types, Dr Ph Martin’s ink, and a Sakura Pen-touch paint marker, and I don’t love any of them.
today i had a man tell me, in all earnest, that i obviously wasn’t very good at my classical studies degree because zeus only had one son, hercules – his source was the disney movie hercules
#it would be easier to list the sons zeus does not have

This thing I’m writing is going to be horrifically comprehensive.

Ocellated turkey (Meleagris ocellata)
The ocellated turkey is a species of turkey residing primarily in the Yucatán Peninsula. It is a relatively large bird, at around 70–122 cm long. The body feathers of both sexes are a mixture of bronze and green iridescent color. Turkeys spend most of the time on the ground and often prefer to run to
escape danger through the day rather than fly, though they can fly
swiftly and powerfully for short distances as the majority of birds in
this order do in necessity. Roosting is usually high in trees away from
night-hunting predators such as jaguars and usually in a family group. The Ocellated Turkey is a generalist in terms of its feeding habits.
They are known to feed on a wide variety of forage including but not
limited to insects such as beetles, moths, and leafcutter ants, grass
seeds, nuts, and leaves.photo credits: Dennis Jarvis
