From Winners of the 2018 Underwater Photographer of the Year Contest, one of 30 photos. “Breathtaking”. Highly Commended, Wide Angle. We found a pod of Orcas that were circling some herring caught in a net. The animals keep circling the net and we could approach them easily to take some close-up shots. Photographed near Skjervoya, Norway. (© Tobias Friedrich / UPY2018)

Not Photoshopped! This is really what the Salish Sea looked like for a few weeks last August when forest fire season was at its peak across the province.
This is a shot of T019 “Mooyah” (middle) with her two offspring T019C “Spouter” and T019B “Galiano” in Boundary Pass, at about 6:30PM as the sun was falling into the band of sky with the most dense smoke.

Orca Conservancy

TAKE ACTION: Our Endangered Southern Resident killer whales rely on wild Chinook salmon for their survival. And, we know open net Atlantic salmon fish farms harm wild salmon.

Join Orca Conservancy along with 78 other businesses and organizations, as well as 5,032 individuals, in supporting Our Sound, Our Salmon.

Together we are forging a powerful grassroots coalition that will send a loud and clear message to the State of Washington that we must:

1. Stop the expansion of all new Atlantic salmon net pens in Washington’s waters, 2. Deny the renewal of all state aquatic leases for the existing Atlantic salmon net pens in Washington, and 3. Join California, Oregon, and Alaska and ban all Atlantic salmon net pens in Washington.

Take Action and then please share: https://www.oursound-oursalmon.org/
