what recreational math are you doing?

I’m…. trying to figure out how many ducks you could fit into a horse

I may be doing something wrong though because I keep getting results that suggest a number around 40 thousand, which CANNOT be right

Are you requiring that the mallards remain intact?

And what dimensions are you estimating the average cylindrical mallard to be?

well, it wasn’t so much a question of  ‘how many could physically fit INSIDE a horse’ but more ‘how many ducks would be EQUIVALENT to one horse. And I will presently make a post with my calculations! I was going about it backwards, so I now have much more reasonable numbers than 40 thousand ducks.

I took your advice and got Clip Studio! Watching tutorials now:D I’d love to know what your favorite features are about it, if you’re willing to talk about it– no pressure at all, I’m just curious about your (obviously positive!) experience!

Ah, sorry this took a month to answer! I’m so rarely on desktop, and tumblr mobile is shit at informing one of asks! D:

I’m sure by now you’ve had time to noodle around in the program, but if you’re still interested in what I like about Clip Studio Paint, here goes:

Photoshop is a photo editing program that’s been modified to support drawing/painting, whereas Clip Studio was built specifically for those things. The UI is superficially similar, so I was skeptical at first about how much of a difference it would really make, but wow does it EVER! Stuff that I struggled for years to make PS do with third-party modifications, Clip Studio just…. has.… as part of it’s basic functions.

Pros:

  • convincing pencil brush, built right in!! It acts like a real goddamn pencil! way better than the best one I ever found and downloaded for PS.
  • watercolor painting brushes make lovely smooth washes
  • oil brushes feel so like using real paint it’s almost shocking.
  • all brushes have very easily adjusted and customizable settings
  • and the real reason I downloaded it at all: brush stabilization! even on mac! I have very shaky hands, and my inking in PS invariably looks like a steaming pile of shit. Not so in Clip Studio!! Still not up to my traditional inking standards, but not bad at all.
  • can export documents to photoshop WITH ALL LAYERS INTACT.
  • all sorts of built-in rulers that I haven’t played around with yet but look useful, including a perspective one.
  • I can’t emphasize enough how natural and intuitive drawing and painting is in this program.
  • ETA: ALSO! You can paint/draw with transparent as a color, so essentially every single brush can be an identical eraser.

Cons:

  • maybe I just haven’t discovered the correct setting, but when files are compressed with the ‘smooth’ setting, they lose a lot more crispness than they do in photoshop, and the ‘sharp’ setting makes them look terrible. This is easily remedied by exporting to PS before shrinking for web, though.
  • again, this might just be me being a novice, but I don’t love the gradient tool in Clip Studio.

my parents and I were on a hike yesterday and spotted a large group of gulls and cormorants feeding on something in the water as we walked along the cliff top. we all stopped to pull out binoculars and were discussing what they might be feeding on (it looked like a large object, not a school of smaller fish like usual) and another hiker passed us, then stopped to look too, and watched for a little before continuing.

We saw her again a little later, coming back the other way, and she greeted us and asked us if we’d figured it out. We said no, and she was like ‘well it was cool anyway listening to you all- like being in a nature documentary!’ I don’t think anyone has ever described my family more accurately.

this is how I feel about having followed you tbh

omg what a testimonial

Every time I recommend Discworld to someone, I get asked “where should I start?” There are several reading order guides floating around the internet, but they just give the order of each series, they don’t give you any information on which to base a choice of starter novel. For that, use this handy (and very biased, okay, I admit it) flow chart!

where the F is Mort, c’mon

it is literally the first potential end point in the flowchart, center top.

I saw that Rossetti painting you reblogged, not realizing it was your blog, and thought “wow, that looks a lot like Mica!” and lo and behold…. (cracking up at your tags btw)

right????? I’ve been tagged in reblogs of his paintings before with stuff like ‘mica it’s u!’

it was a legitimate problem when I was writing that paper on Rossetti and his models. I felt like I was being ogled from beyond the grave. this was my original post about it iirc.
