“He swept his tongue into B’s mouth, thoroughly exploring the warm cavern. He growled when B’s tongue mated with his.”

In this episode of Planet Earth, we get a rare glimpse of the reproductive cycle of tongues. A cave-dwelling species, the human tongue is found in humid equatorial areas. Though the courtship behavior of tongues has been frequently documented, the mating itself has proved more elusive, and appears only in the purplest of prose.

don’t you just love reading an otherwise perfectly decent fic and then a female character appears and-

It was in her nature to be motherly.”

no, no it was NOT. she has never even interacted with a child in canon! you could have used any one of several male characters who have a canon child for this scene, but you went for the tired sexist stereotypes instead. of course.

this evening on writer’s corner with mica, we have yet another ‘that word does not mean what you think it means’ problem:

A— pets him on the head. “It’s okay M—. It’s not your fault you can’t spell. I’m sure there are extraneous circumstances.”

I mean, there may have been extraneous circumstances as well, but they weren’t mentioned, what with being extraneous and all. I think the word you wanted was extenuating, which means to make something bad more understandable/forgivable, whereas extraneous is similar in meaning to irrelevant or superfluous.

goddamnshinyrock:

me, forgetting what has happened every single other time I’ve done this: I think I’ll try some het fic, this pairing sounds like it has good chemistry and potential and this good writer likes it.
me, 10 minutes later, after trying five different recommended fics and finding horribly OOC misogyny in the first few paragraphs every damn time: I have made a terrible mistake.

In fact, he rather thought he knew her better now, contrary to what she might have thought on the matter. [She] liked to think of herself as exceptionally complicated, but she was still a female, in spite of one’s natural perception that she lacked such feminine qualities. It was easy to forget this fact because of the way she reprimanded everyone in sight, not unlike [P] at the library.”

Readers, it is Bad.

tonight on writer’s corner with mica, a brand new word mixup:

“You will show some respect and seize your shouting.”

Seize your shouting! Seize it by the throat and shake it like a terrier killing a rat! Don’t let your shouting escape!

(‘seize’ doesn’t even sound like ‘cease’, wtf)

@ fanfic writers: “throws” is a verb, and “throw” is synonymous with “toss” or “pitch”. “THROES” is a noun, and means a painful spasm or difficult struggle. “In the throes” is NOT synonymous with “in the midst”, and they should not be used interchangeably.

especially not in a scene meant to be sexy; “the way he gets in the throws of sex” sounds painful (quite apart from the word misuse) and possibly like something that either needs to be checked out by a doctor or needs a safeword.
