I can’t decide whether to take a class on architectural sketching or on plant identification next quarter
I don’t know why I ever thought I could go to grad school and manage to be ‘cohesive’ and ‘directed’ in my studies, honestly

The Ashley Book of Knots is a legendary tome among nautical enthusiasts, and the New Bedford Whaling Museum is currently hosting an incredible exhibit on its author, Clifford W. Ashley. I don’t know that I’ll be able to make it across the country before the show comes down in June, but if any of you are in the area, please go and tweet me pictures.
oh! I saw this exhibit when I visited my folks for the holidays, it’s fantastic! they do a great job integrating the craft of knotwork with the practical aspects of how they were used on ships, and with broader decorative arts!
who has two thumbs and corrected the lecturer on which expedition Apsley Cherry-Garrard was part of?
THIS GIRL.
I think my favorite thing about my botany background is the ability to See that you acquire when you learn to identify plants. A forest or a field goes very suddenly from a mass of indeterminate green to a collection of individuals with unique traits, and once the switch flipped for me it never turned off again. Feels good to recognize your neighbors.
the real meaning of adulthood is being the youngest person at the various museum/arts & culture related events I go to by only 10 years rather than by 15-20.
the unfortunate part of doing a literature review is actually having to make the time and mental space to…. read the relevant literature……
how are we in 2018 with self-driving cars, robots, virtual reality, facial recognition, and smartphones in our pockets that can do basically everything a full-scale computer can, yet embedding an image in a word document without completely destroying the formatting is still beyond us as a society?

A Birdy Art Challenge!
December came and went without a formal Decembird (kudos to people who did their own!), which was 100% on me having too many jobs + moving + generalized holiday madness. However, I so enjoyed seeing what folks did for Decembird 2016, and am too impatient to wait till next December 2018 to see what you bird-loving creative people make.
SO! To make up for the lack of a Decembird in 2017, let’s get revved up for FEBIRDARY 2018!! (No, the pun isn’t as good.)
The rules are simple: draw one bird each day the month of February, post it to social media, and tag it with #Febirdary and #Febirdary2018! You can follow the prompts below, or draw whatever you want (so long as it is bird-related!). Feel free to interpret the prompts however you like.

Have fun, everyone! I look forward to seeing what you do!
