I spent a solid fifteen-to-twenty minutes today standing in the middle of a clearing and alternately trying to ID dragonflies through binoculars and making notes on the large wasps in the salmonberry flowers, while my very very long-suffering dog laid down in the trail six yards away, sighing loudly every so often, just to remind me that she had been under the impression that a walk involves walking

the positive side of taking my dog to my research site is that she helped me find organisms I might otherwise have missed

….the negative side is that she did this by either stepping on them without noticing or trying to eat them

Well, the word got around, they said, “This kid is insane, man!”

Took up a collection just to send him to the mainland.

“Get your education, don’t forget from whence you came, and

the world’s gonna know your name. What’s your name, man?”
