Chapeau à la Robinson – “Robinson” hat. I usually can figure out who styles like this are referring to with some searching, but I am baffled.
Cheveux à l’Enfant – Children’s hairstyle. It’s longer and looser than the usual adult male hairstyle.
Pantalon de Tricot – Knitted pantaloons! While knits were not as stretchy as at this point in time, they were still obviously stretchier than other fabrics, and they would cling very nicely to the legs.
Bottes à la hussarde – Hussar boots, very common in Regency romances. The Hussars were originally eastern European soldiers, but by this point other countries raised their own Hussar regiments. With highly interesting and attractive uniforms decorated with gold braid and tassels, the French Hussars had a strong influence on fashion.
I was trying to find ref pictures for a character petting a horse and man do a ton of the stock photo results for ‘person petting horse’ contain some seriously uncomfortable looking horses.
most of these horses look about 30 seconds away from a bite, while the human stock photo models are looking unconvincingly rapturous to be sticking their faces right up against a horse’s head.
my dog just boldly shoved her face in a thistle, yet again, only to get poked in the nose and immediately recoil, looking astonished
ah yes, who could have predicted that sniffing a thistle would be painful. surely this time I sniff this exact thistle the results will be different than last time I sniffed this thistle.

Beshelar isn’t short, but Cala is just such a beanpole that his colleague provides a convenient armrest.

today I learned that arctic hares have been known to occasionally feed on carrion
…every time I learn that an animal I had previously assumed to be an herbivore is not strictly so I’m unsettled all over again. you’d think I’d expect it by now.
@friendlyjinx replied to your post: today I learned that arctic hares have been known…
Like horses
yup, and deer, and giraffes (who gnaw on bones for the calcium, the weirdos)! I have now come to expect it of ungulates, in general, but to learn that lagomorphs are also sometimes meat-eating freaks was a heavy blow, I tell you.
